4th FIA round Hockenheim, Germany August 13th – 15th
With only the bar engine block and many things to do, we decided to arrive a day earlier to Hockenheim. With this we had the full Thursday to put the engine back together. After things at Mantorp Park we had to put new rods, pistons and an overhold crank back into the engine. Everything worked and so we were ready for the first round of qualification on Friday. This was a big "driver error" and my burn out was really nothing. Every public racer will make more "smoke" than I did (sorry guys). With also new tires mounted on the rims there was only an "up in smoke" after hitting the throttle. So I idled town the track.
After we warmed up the car before the second round we got a clutch problem. We had only 25 min. left and we worked very hard to get the clutch out, fix the problem and putting everything back together. This was a hard one and I have to give a big thank you to my crew guys Sven, Jakob, Carsten and Christoph. In the head of the fight there were some hard words when trashing things back together, so sorry for that, guys! Our pit marshal Spencer created a "new line" after that, named "The Marco Line" because we are mostly not ready when getting the call. Thanks for that Spencer! The run was better but not good.
On Saturday things turned around the first time this year back into the right direction. We made a 6.38, than a 6.30 and at least a 6.26 when running Andy Robinson first round. I drove a 0,053 reaction to give it all at the tree but at the end Andy took the win with one tens of a second. So we lose, but more important is that we got the gremlins out of the car and we know that we are back into the right direction. With this we are looking forward to run at the Finals in Santa Pod and hopefully make our first round with setting some new personal best up there.
